Waste and Recycling Collection Update – December 2017

Please be aware that we are still struggling to access the vast majority of properties in order to empty waste and recycling containers that were due yesterday and today. We are meeting daily with our contractors to assess the situation but a combination of hazards (untreated roads, ice on roads and pavements, poorly parked cars etc) are hampering our efforts considerably.

Our advice to residents is to leave grey and blue bins at the collection point and our crews will get to them as soon as it is safe to do so. Excess black bags will be taken with grey bins (non-recyclable waste) and excess recycling can be presented in carrier/clear bags, to enable the crews to view the contents before collecting.

When collections recommence we will focus on Monday properties first. Given the small number of green bins presented, and the need to provide appropriate support to residual (grey bin) and recycling (blue bin) rounds, any green bins not emptied on collection day will be serviced on the next scheduled collection date. Our crews will also be working Saturday (weather permitting) to support the catch up that will now be required and this will be at no additional cost to the Council.

We are posting regular updates on the Council website and via our Twitter and Facebook accounts. In the past two days our notifications on social media have been viewed 60,000 times and the responses have generally been positive.

We are doing everything possible to minimise disruption to residents but the safety of road users, pedestrians and our crews is our number one concern. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
