Warning against doorstep traders

Hello ,

We are urging residents to be on their guard following a report of rogue traders in the Essington area of South Staffordshire.

A man approached residents at their home in St John’s Road, at around 11.15am today (15 January) demanding money for gardening work that had not been requested or completed.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft tall, and of a medium build. He was wearing a black cap, waterproof jacket and dark jeans.

He left the location in a black 4×4, possibly a Nissan Navara, driven by a second white man.

We would like to remind the public to never allow any unsolicited visitors into their home, or agree to works being completed by doorstep traders.

Please warn elderly and vulnerable neighbours to follow the STOP, CHAIN, CHECK rule when people call at the door.
STOP – If you are not expecting anybody and they don’t have an appointment, don’t let them in.
CHAIN- Use your door chain or bar before opening the door.
CHECK – Ask to see ID and double check this.

Local residents are encouraged to contact the police immediately if they have any suspicions about doorstep callers.
