Public Meeting

We have been informed that there is limited capacity for the meeting at Codsall Village Hall on Monday 11th November .

Spatial Housing Strategy and Infrastructure Delivery Consultation

Following on from SSDC’s Issues and Options consultation last year they have now begun the second stage of public consultation on the review of the Local Plan.

Its focus is on housing growth in the district, looking at broad locations for growth and the infrastructure benefits that will be delivered as a consequence.  This consultation is not site-specific but looks at seven different options to deliver housing to meet South Staffordshire’s own housing needs and a contribution towards unmet housing need in the wider region.

You can see the seven options – including the Council’s preferred Option G – by looking at the Spatial Housing Strategy and Infrastructure Delivery (SHSID) document and the supporting information, including an updated Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP). SSDC will be looking in more detail at employment growth options, and at meeting the needs of the Gypsy and Traveller community at the next stage of consultation in summer 2020.  This is also when specific sites for housing will be considered.

SSDC has said the following: ” We know there are very difficult decisions to be made in providing new homes and protecting the Green Belt and our aim is to keep Green Belt release to a minimum.  We have commissioned detailed Green Belt and Landscape Studies which will help us to avoid development in the most sensitive areas of Green Belt.

To help you make your comments we have produced a FAQ sheet and as this is a formal stage of consultation you must make your comments in writing by email, letter, or by using a response form.  All of the main documents and forms are available to view online at and there are hard copies at the Council Offices in Codsall.  We will also send hard copies to you by the end of next week and would ask you to make them available for public inspection.

In keeping with the housing focus, we are also consulting on an update to our Affordable Housing and Housing Mix Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).  We have a strong track record of delivering affordable homes and the SPD sets out the Council’s expectations in relation to the provision of housing in the district.  This provides clarity for landowners, developers, registered providers and residents and will ensure a consistent approach is taken between sites across the district.  The draft document can also be found on the website, along with details of how to respond to the consultation.

The consultation runs until 5pm on Thursday 12 December 2019.   Please take the time to be involved and respond to our consultations, but if you have any queries please contact me  (Kelly Harris) or a member of the Local Plans Team on 01902 696000 or email “
