Bilbrook Parish Council seeks an enthusiastic individual to become a Parish. Councillor & get the chance to:
– Represent the views of your fellow residents
– Contribute to discussions on local issues
– Make decisions that affect our community
– Help improve the quality of life in Bilbrook
We’re looking for someone with:
– A passion for Bilbrook & its residents
– Good communication & interpersonal skills
– A willingness to work as part of a team
– An ability to listen to & represent the views of the community
– Spare time to dedicate to Parish Council work & a proactive, “doer” attitude
– Availability on the 1st Wednesday of the month from 7 pm for meetings (typically 2 hours)
While no specific qualifications are required, skills in problem-solving, community engagement, or local knowledge would be beneficial. Ultimately, your passion for Bilbrook is the most valuable asset you bring!
To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
– Be at least 18 years of age on the day of nomination
-Be a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen
-Meet at least one of the following criteria:
-Be registered as a local government elector for the parish
-Have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish during the whole 12 months before the day of nomination
-Have resided in the parish during the whole 12 months before the day of nomination or election
-Your principal or only place of work during the 12 months before the day of nomination has been in the parish
You cannot be a Parish Councillor if you are disqualified from holding office as a local councillor. This includes bankruptcy restrictions, certain criminal convictions, being subject to a declaration that you have engaged in disreputable conduct.
The successful candidate will be appointed through a co-option process where the Parish Council considers applications & votes to appoint the most suitable candidate.
The role is unpaid, however the rewards of making a positive impact on your community are immense.
